HUNDRED SUNS: A REFERENCE TO THE APPROXIMATELY 100 DAYS OF THE GROWING SEASON BETWEEN FLOWERING & HARVEST.
Carson Phillips makes its debut in 2021 and hubba hubba, or as Grant says "chug a lug." What we're both speaking is the language of "get this into a glass now because it is crazy good!" The first Hundred Suns wine from the Dundee Hills shows its origins with a darker yet totally Dundee-sultry nose of deep strawberry and brown spices. A fabulous mouthful of beautiful fruit, silky and charming throughout. Alas it is as limited as it is righteous. -Marcus
Planted in 2000 in the Dundee Hills, this vineyard is owned by the Phillips family who farm sustainably without the use of synthetic chemicals or herbicides. Dry farmed and deep rooted, these vines express the intensity of the volcanic soils from which they draw their nutrients and water.
2021 started off with dry conditions that led into a warm growing season producing small clusters and tiny berries. Harvested on September 16th, the multi-clonal mix of Pinot Noir was divided into five distinct fermentations with varying amounts of whole cluster. Fermented with indigenous yeast and aged in French oak, the resulting wine is garnet in color with layers of red fruit and warm baking spices. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
