VINTAGE : 2019

COUNTRY : FRANCE

REGION/APPELLATION : Burgundy, Côte de Nuits

VARIETALS : Pinot Noir

The Mongeard family arrived in Vosne-Romanée in the eighteenth century, with records showing a Mongeard working as vigneron for Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in 1786. In 1945, Jean Mongeard, whose mother was a Mugneret, found himself making wine at the age of 16. The entire 1945 crop was purchased by Baron le Roy, Marquis d’Angerville, and Henri Gouges. Gouges instructed the young Mongeard to personally bottle the wines, rather than sell in barrel (Stay tuned for Thursday's offer.)

In 1975, Vincent Mongeard, Jean’s son, began working alongside his father and became responsible for viticulture and vinification of the Domaine’s wines. He persuaded his father to return to the traditional method of bottling, without filtration, filtering only with certain vintages. Jean Mongeard retired in 1995, and Vincent assumed complete leadership of the Domaine. Respectful of the tradition, Vincent Mongeard practices the vinification at the Domaine with the greatest care.

The 2019 Vintage while small provided a perfect state of health, excellent phenolic maturity and good acidity. “The magic of another magnificent “9” vintage…”

2019 Echezeaux Grand Complication (Formerly known as Echezeaux Villes Vignes) Just like the precision and know-how of the best watchmakers, each bouquet from the Grande Complication is expressed with purity and authenticity. First, the wild berries - intense blackcurrant and lively raspberry- reveal all the splendor of this selection. Then, the subtleness of the aromas comes out as sweet spicy notes. Harmony, power, finesse, and purity blend in a precious and complex movement.
