Florent Lancon is the 8th generation of his family to make wine at Solitude. They are located in the best part of CDP, the La Crau peninsula. He is a descendant of the 12thcentury Barberini family of Rome, and has a Pope and two Cardinals on his family tree. They were also the first family to bottle and label a Chateauneuf du Pape in the 17thcentury.
Cornelia Constanza is produced in hommage to Cornelia Costanza Barberini (1716-1797) the last Princess of the Family Barberini. She married Giulio Cesare Colonna di Sciarra, Prince de Carbognano. All the Italian property of the Barberini family went to the Colonna family.
Tasting Notes:
A full-bodied, elegant and refined wine, tannic while remaining velvety smooth with gooseberry, toffee, cinnamon, cardamom and sichuan pepper, finishing very long on the palate.
" One of the vintage's strongest efforts is the 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cornelia Constanza, a 100% Grenache all from the sandy soils near the estate that was brought up mostly in concrete, with 30% each in foudre and new barrels. Gorgeous wild strawberries, redcurrants, peppery herbs, sandalwood, and loamy earth define the aromatics, and its medium-bodied, has a supple, elegant mouthfeel, and a beautiful finish. It will shine for a solid 8-10 years." Jeb Dunnuck 94
