Domaine Alex Moreau Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge Vieilles Vignes, Cote de Beaune, France 2022
It’s impossible to discuss Chassagne-Montrachet without mentioning the name Moreau. Year to year, these celebrated wines and producers vinify and bottle some of the purest, most thought-provoking wines of the appellation. Domaine Alex Moreau is the natural progression from storied Domaine Bernard Moreau, Alex’s father and rightfully venerated vingeron in Burgundy. Employing a style of wine making that might best be described as hands-off, the house produces Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays that are sensual, opulent and utterly delicious.
In 2021, Alex assumed full control of the domaine, its winery, cellar, winemaking and vineyards. Today, Alex Moreau is proudly establishing the reputation for his own wines and direction. He and his wife Martine are the stewards of Domaine Alex Moreau. He leads the overall operations of the winery including cellar, winemaking, and the vineyards. Martine plays an active and vital role in the business, and together, they are writing the next chapter in the legacy of Domaine Alex Moreau.
Delivering aromas of peonies, rose petals, red berries, and spices, the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes presents as a medium-bodied wine. It boasts a satiny texture and is infused with aromatic qualities, accentuated by vibrant acidity and a saline-tinged finish.
