Azelia di Luigi Scavino 'San Rocco', Barolo DOCG, Italy 2019
"WE ARE A HISTORICAL AND SMALL FAMILY-RUN WINERY FOUNDED IN 1920 IN CASTIGLIONE FALLETTO, IN THE HEART OF THE LANGA OF BAROLO, ONE OF THE MOST EXTRAORDINARY WINE REGIONS IN THE WORLD."
A cuirassier. Fleshy, extremely focused. Here Serralunga d’Alba is present with signs of licorice, spices and dark fruits. Cherry, currant and blueberry melt harmoniously together.
Velvety and sweetly ripe, with splendidly integrated tannins. San Rocco gives an impression of great power, austerity, with an incredible aging potential.
Pure complexity. A strong character. Monumental.
"San Rocco is a small MGA located on the northern side of Serralunga d'Alba with steep slopes that open toward Cerretta with clay and limestone. The 2019 Barolo San Rocco (with 7,300 bottles made) benefits from tighter space and a protected microclimate to produce powerful wines. However, this vintage certainly needs more time in bottle and is nowhere near expressing its full potential now. The bouquet is rigid and unyielding at this time. This is a characteristic of San Rocco." Wine Advocate 94+
