Tenuta di Trinoro 'Campo di Camagi ' Toscana IGT, Tuscany, Italy 2021
Located in a remote corner of southeastern Tuscany, Tenuta di Trinoro specializes in rich, age-worthy red wines made of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. The Estate sits in viticultural isolation in the Orcia Valley near Sarteano, where Tuscany meets Umbria and Lazio.
Campo di Camagi (100% Cabernet Franc) is a 1.5-hectare vineyard where vines have grown on broken quartz and limestone, long before we planted: densely, in a thin layer of soil, at 550 meters above sea level. The plants struggled for room until they reached a balance: roots having filled the ground, each vine has the same number of leaves in its share of the air.
“The final wine in Trinoro’s trio of I Campi Cabernet Francs, Camagi is the highest site at 550m, and this shows in its finesse in this hot and dry vintage. Sous bois, black and blue berries, petrichor, and some minty, balsamic wafts make for an enticing aroma. In the mouth it combines intense, vibrant and succulent dark fruits with fine, grippy tannins and bright, well integrated acidity. There’s an almost-ferrous and incredibly sapid character on the mid-palate, while the finish is precise, fresh and vertical, prolonged by that lovely acidity along with some herbal and balsamic notes. Great poise: a fine Cabernet Franc indeed." Decanter, 96 points
