Summer Dreams 'Super Chill' Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast, USA 2021

Amidst the persistent wave of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon brands vying for the title of Next Big Thing, our palates were relieved to discover Hundred Acre founder Jayson Woodbridge has shifted hears with the release of Summer Dreams. His new Sonoma project features Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc sourced from some of Sonoma Coast’s most renowned vineyards. Summer Dreams is an exciting departure from what one expects from Woodbridge. He calls the project “a love letter to summers past,” where the wine embodies the essence of the season.

Each hillside vineyard site is chosen for the generous slope, unique sequence of Goldridge soils, ranging from 900-1900 feet above sea level, and microclimate to add dimension to the wines. A rare, fine-grained sandy loam, Goldridge soils are known for excellent drainage, and a characteristically light and fluffy texture. Some of the particularly unique sites have Goldridge layered on top of ancient seabed where finding fossils in the soil is not unusual and a clay content that helps the soil retain precious moisture during the growing season. The coastal climate of the region is marked by warm, dry summers and cool, damp winters.

WINE NOTES

Wonderful balance for this Occidental Area of the Sonoma Coast. Ripe and fresh dark fruit, forest flowers, intense cherry with hints of spice layered into a very full-bodied rich wine fermented in puncheon barrels from the finest French oak and some micro-open top fermenters. This wine has very fine tannins and acidity, perfect integration for cellaring for 10+ years, but drinking like a champion right now too. Rock Star.

"Another spicy, complex, fresh 2021, the 2021 Pinot Noir Super Chill has some classic, Burgundian leafy herbs and underbrush notes as well as a beautiful core of raspberry and dark cherry fruits. It's vibrant, medium to full-bodied, has riveting purity, and ultra-fine tannins. This is legit sensational Pinot Noir. Drink bottles over the coming 7-8 years." Jeb Dunnuck 97
