Lyra Pinot Noir is a selection of barrels from Gap’s Crown, Gravenstein, Bohemian, Starscape, Freestone, and Jentoft vineyards. Hailing primarily from four sub-AVAs of the Sonoma Coast - Sonoma Mountain, Green Valley, Petaluma Gap, and Sebastapol Hills - we find diversity in climate, soil, and clonal types which allows us the freedom to explore and experiment with blending.
Fruit harvested by hand at night or first light between September 10 -October 12. Hand-sorted and gently destemmed to keep whole berries intact with 10-15% whole-cluster inclusion, Three to four-day cold soak under dry ice to preserve freshness. Native yeast fermentation in 2-5 ton open-top tanks with gentle pumpovers and manual punchdowns. After 18-22 days on the skins, wine is gravity drained overnight and barreled down for malolactic in Cavin, François Frères, and Stockinger wood, 30% new oak. Wine ages for 12 months until gently racked off of lees, and the blend assembled. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The inaugural vintage of Lyra Pinot Noir shows pale ruby red in the glass with an explosive nose of rose hips, fresh strawberry, and hints of Asian spice. In the mouth, you’ll find lifted flavors of black cherry, cedar, and hints of orange peel, all wrapped in a beautifully delicate package.
