Jean et Sebastien Dauvissat Les Preuses, Chablis Grand Cru, France 2022
Jean Dauvissat, and his son Sébastien, are the most recent in an extended line of the Dauvissat family that has been in possession of this notable domaine since 1899. The cave is positioned under the family house which dates from the 17th century and where the road to the hamlet of Chichée begins. The first formal bottling of wines under the Dauvissat label occurred on a limited scale in 1963.
Sébastien owns three quarters of a hectare in Les Preuses, sandwiched between Bougros and Vaudesir in the northern part of the grand cru zone. Produced mainly from 50- to 60-year-old vines but with a small portion that was replanted a decade ago, this undergoes fermentation and its first year of élevage in barrels, with a second year passed in steel. Les Preuses combines elegance and intensity in a way that speaks to its grand cru status, and its density on the palate, its swelling finish, and its overall sense of brooding power point toward a long and slow evolution in bottle.
"This also displays moderate wood influence on the ripe layered and pure nose that displays good layering and ample Chablis typicity. There is impressive mid-palate density to the opulent and lavishly rich medium-bodied flavors that possess a borderline lush, even creamy, mouthfeel, all wrapped in a citrusy and sneaky long finish. This unusually powerful effort should also be capable of mid-term development yet drink well after only 5 or so years." Burghound | 91-94
