Domaine Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, Cote de Nuits, France 2022
The Dugat family have been winegrowers in the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation since the beginning of the 17th century. Bernard Dugat and his son, Loîc are the 12th and 13th generation to exploit the unique knowledge of wine-making and working in the vines, which has been acquired over four centuries.
All plantings are selection massale, using their best old fruit to replant. The vineyards are tended like a garden, with biodynamic teas prepared in-house and no trimming of the canopy. Organic vineyard management since 2003. No pre-fermentation maceration (cold soak) is done on any wines, just raw material, without any additives or correction. Traditional fermentation. Aged 12 to 18 months in oak barrels of which 10% new. Wines are unfiltered and unfined.
This is a village level wine from 50-year-old vines, and an exceptional bottling from one of the most coveted producers in the Côte de Nuits. The 2022 vintage will age well for decades to come.
